Also known as Jimbo, I have been writing stories for about thirty years, mostly about my experiences of travel around the world.
I have always enjoyed corresponding with friends from many countries, up to 120 folk on my mailing list. Originally by snail mail, later by e-mails
Raising a family of four boys was not easy but when they finally left home, my wife Bernice and I discovered we had spare cash to fulfil our desire to travel, sadly Bernice only managed one overseas trip before dying from a brain haemorrhage.
This made me determined to see as much of the world as I could afford, working hard all year I would take my annual holidays going to new countries. I was fortunate to experience many wonderful journeys.
Some of my early travel stories were not very informative and I have started rewriting them, this takes a lot of research, thank goodness I still have my diaries.
After shifting from New Zealand to Australia to be closer to my family and now fully retired, I took the opportunities that are offered to us oldies and joined the U.3 A, University of the third age) Continuing with my German studies that I had started in New Zealand, I also started in a writers workshop class. This is a most enjoying and satisfying course, helping me establish a lifetime dream to write fiction and non-fiction. This is an amazing feat, I never new I was capable of allowing my imagination to make up stories to the extent of writing mysteries and comedy.
My tutor Jenny Riley has been an excellent help in extending my ability to write about things I have only dreamed I would be able to adapt, even persuading me to write poetry, this I thought would be just in my dreams but somehow I have managed putting together a few short ones. A very difficult poem was the one I wrote about my late brother, so very hard and personal but I think I managed to get my message across. I have even attempted to write radio scripts.
As competitions appear in papers or I hear about them, I enter some of my work, not very encouraging but I’m learning heaps more from comments. I have won $100 worth of Rio underwear and have had some fiction put forward to the judges for a short story competition in Sydney, who knows?
For me this is a wonderful way to keep my mind active in my latter years, even if I never join a “best seller” list, I get lots of pleasure out of writing.
I have listed my work on this web sight in their categories, hoping that others can get some pleasure in reading what I have written over the years. Enjoy.
Take care
